Abstract 

An IEEE 802.15.4 backscatter communication dataset for Radio Frequency (RF) fingerprinting purposes.

It includes I/Q samples of transmitted frames from six carrier emitters, including two USRP B210 devices (labeled as c#) and four CC2538 chips (labeled as cc#), alongside ten backscatter tags (identified as tag#). The carrier emitters generate an unmodulated carrier signal, while the backscatter tags employ QPSK modulation within the 2.4 GHz frequency band, adhering to the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol standards.

The significance of this dataset lies in its potential to bolster security measures and improve device authentication processes within IoT networks by leveraging the unique RF fingerprints that devices emit. By providing a diverse array of emitter and tag combinations, this dataset offers a rich resource for developing and testing RF fingerprinting techniques, which are critical for ensuring the integrity and authenticity of wireless communications in the rapidly expanding domain of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Instructions: 

Experimental Configuration

  • The backscatter signal center frequency is 2.48 GHz.
  • We collect around 30 s of duration for each emitter and tag pair with a 75 frames/s transmission rate, and each frame contains a 34 B random payload.
  • The signal is captured by a USRP B210 device with an 8 MS/s sampling rate in the I/Q format. The carrier emitters are positioned 0.1 m from the backscatter tags, while the receiver is fixed on the table 0.7 m from them.
